Last year we were given an old ripped, faded and water damaged newspaper from January 20, 1968, The Chronicle-Herald, Halifax. All the pages were there, just some of them had been torn. The ads are a wonderful snapshot of commerce back then, the styles, the early technology. I knew I would do something with it eventually, but I hadn’t had an idea yet. Recently, I tried something. I washed a couple of the pages and decoupaged them to a canvass. Because they were so yellowed and faded, I embellished them with paint pens. This is the result.
